Recreational Therapy Department
The main goal of the Recreational Therapy Department (RT) is to help clients strive to reach their highest potential, maximize quality of life, and entertain! The RT Department is comprised of a very motivated group of individuals who work through group and individual programs finding ways for clients to express themselves socially, artistically, physically, and spiritually.
We do that through a variety of programs some of which are listed below:

Monthly Resident Council Meetings
All Clients are encouraged to attend the monthly Resident Council Meetings. Resident Council gives clients the opportunity to voice their opinions, share their ideas, make requests for specialty meals, or special activities. Resident Council also provides a great venue to share information, education and updates on a variety of topics. The Council also gives clients the opportunity to offer constructive criticism and raise and vote on important issues concerning their daily life.
Family Council
Family Council works much the same way as the Resident Council, only the members of this council are the families of our clients. Families are encouraged to attend regular council meetings where they are given the opportunity to offer suggestions, voice opinions, raise concerns, and receive education and updates on what is happening in the Birchwood Community.
We have found that through both the Resident and Family Councils many issues have been resolved, and ideas have been born. The overall goal of these meetings is to improve the lives of our clients and their loved ones.
Religious Services
Birchwood is not affiliated with any church denomination, but we are able to offer a wide variety of spiritual and religious services. Through the generosity of local religious leaders and volunteers from our local churches, we can provide regular church services, specialty education and ceremonial services to our clients.
